We all need breathing space
This is time dedicated to our own health and well being, space to find out how we really feel, and time to replenish lost energy and recharge our batteries.
Far from being selfish - this breathing space is an essential component of a healthy physical, emotional and engaged life. When we learn how to create this breathing space - life is richer!
The practices of Yoga and Meditation are two of the most ancient, wholesome and proven ways in which to discover a breathing space that is uniquely yours.
This week will offer you the possibility of a more self-aware, compassionate life. The practices ask you to come as you are. Starting from where you are.
I hope you will join us...
8am - 9am
Gentle stretching and short meditation.
Breakfast and quiet time for journaling, walking or relaxing in the swimming pool
10:30am until approx 12:30pm
End of silence. Informal workshop on an aspect of mindfulness practice - and a guided formal meditation practice. We'll look at what mindfulness is and how we can practise it in everyday life. We'll be looking at our thoughts, our emotions and our stresses - and learning how to begin to respond to our experience with more awareness and less knee jerk reactivity
Lunch, free time after lunch.
Afternoon tea and informal chat
Silence from 10pm until 10:30am
At the end of the week we will share a day practicing in silence
Meet your teacher
Cath Newman - I have been practising and teaching Yoga and Meditation for over 28 years and I have seen time and again its power to enrich, transform and support the lives of those who practise. Including my own! I was trained to be a Yoga teacher by Velta Wilson, an inspirational teacher and a founder member of the British Wheel of Yoga. I also hold a BSY Associate Hatha Yoga Teaching Diploma. I trained to teach Mindfulness Meditation and MBSR Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction with Bodhin Philip Woodward and Kathy Ward at the Mindful Academy, Solterreno Retreat Centre in Spain. This course is a Yoga Alliance 200hrs registered qualification and adheres to good practice guidelines. I attend regular CPD retreats and have monthly supervision with my Mindfulness mentor. At home in Dorset, I teach yoga to people of all ages and all abilities - from beginner to intermediate and a dedicated class for seniors. I'm especially passionate about reaching out to those who feel they are inflexible, unfit or unable to do yoga. Yoga practise is available to everyone.
For more information about how I teach, please have a look at my website
If you have questions about the retreat, please don't hesitate to email:
There will be daily workshops, discussions, and individual guidance, focusing on your own aims. In essence it’s a weeklong opportunity allowing yourself to indulge in what it feels like to open and stretch those parts of the body and mind that need it. All this whilst soaking up the French countryside and having a fun time in good company! There will also be potential visits to local markets, chateaux, and vine yards for those who want. Here’s a brief low-down on what you can expect to find on your week...
Cathy teaches Hatha Yoga and Mindful Movement. The Yoga will be suitable for all abilities - and she will work gently with you if you have any health issues, injuries or apprehensions. If you are an experienced Yogi, you will be encouraged to deepen and progress your practise. The daily routine will offer plenty of free time - with activities before and after breakfast and daily yoga in the late afternoon before dinner. Afternoons will be yours to use as you wish, and we will keep silence between 10pm up until mid morning.
Bringing mindfulness home
This retreat will help you to step off autopilot and bring yourself fully into the present moment. Together with daily yoga and meditation practise, we'll be looking at how we can respond with more awareness to the things that stress us, learning mindfulness techniques that we can apply to our every day lives. Our aim is that you will spend a relaxing week on retreat but once home, you will have the tools with which to keep in touch with those feelings of being more aware, more connected and less stressed.
Accommodation and food is provided throughout your stay, as well as all of the teaching. Your travel to and from the retreat is not included. If you wish to fly then please do so to and from Tours Airport. There will be optional excursions throughout the week so please bring additional Euros for extra drinks, meals outside of The Farm, chateaux entrance tickets, and any taxi fares. French wine and beer will be available, although at an extra cost (there is an honesty chart on the fridge which is paid for at the end of your stay).
